After its Budapest unit launched in 2009, BP is creating its other global business service centre in Hungary. With the project to be implemented in Szeged by 2020, it plans to create a total of 560 new jobs representing high added value in the country town of Csongrád Country. At present, BP provides a wide range of services in 15 languages from Hungary primarily for the company's European subsidiaries and customers. 85% of the 1,400 employees hold post-secondary degrees, and their majority speak more than two languages fluently. The new Szeged unit will provide services for BP in areas representing strategic growth, such as finance, accounting, purchasing, HR, customer service and business support.
The new office center offers 4 500 sqm of office space on 3 floors with a big terrace, green park and 250 bycle racks. During the reconstruction of the 100 years old former clothing factory monumental building it was essential to keep the character of the building, industrial look and feel where possible. It reflects in the 200 sqm common space, the robuste looking BP Playzone as well. The building has central reception, security and FM service desk and is equipped with excellent wireless, latest monitor and screen tools and IT system. Energy saving solutions and the minimum number of parking spaces help to ease environmental pollution.
The official opening of the Szeged office on 26 September was attended by Levente Magyar, minister of state for economic diplomacy, Szeged Mayor László Botka, and Iain Lindsay OBE, British Ambassador to Hungary, alongside senior BP leaders.
The new office building of BP is the symbol of economic development. The multinational company reconstructed the building of a former clothing factory established 100 years ago. The building had to be demolished to the shell and rebuilt in the original style. Instead of dressmakers today highly skilled experts serve their clients globally in strategic areas.
As a result, 560 members staff will work on 450 work stations. This concept supports BP’s agile working methodology. The organic connection of office spaces help the better co-working between departments.
In 2016 BP Hungary won SSC Investment of the Year price. At the 'Investors of the Year' Gala HIPA, the Hungarian investment agency awarded companies investing in Hungary.
BP Hungary's Global Business Services has won a prestigious ‘best shared services centre’ of the year award. The 5th annual CEE Shared Services and Outsourcing Awards recognized 25 top companies from a total of 23 countries for their contribution to the shared services industry.
GBS won for being the best shared services centre currently in operation across central and eastern, taking first place against a shortlist of eight other companies. It was praised for its approach to people, successful projects, and range of corporate social responsibility activities.
